- If I were to teach this novel, I would teach it in conjunction with Hamlet . I would want students to be able to look at both versions of this story and determine the inherent differences and similarities between the two characters.

- What was better than Hamlet? What was worse?
- Hand out paper prompt
- What students will be comparing and contrasting the entire work of Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Students will discuss the themes of both works and how these themes are influenced by the style of the work.
- Students will work with partner to create answers to following questions
- What is the theme of Ros and Guil?
- What is the theme of Hamlet?
- What is the style of Ros and Guil?
- What is the style of Hamlet?
- What is effective and ineffective about each play?
- Teacher will be walking around classroom, giving guidance
- Share answers with the class as a whole
- Have students write 2 column list with all this information on it, so as to help them when they begin writing
- Students need to have at least 4 possible topics they might want to write about by the end of the period
- Students will be looking at two different types of plays that have many similarities. They will need to see how these similarities and differences serve to tell the story the playwright is interested in
