Mamet, David. Speed the Plow. Berkshire: Methuen Printing , 2002. Print.
Speed the Plow tells the story of two Hollywood producers trying to decide what script will get funding to become a feature film. One option is a typical action film but starring a big Hollywood star and the other is a more artistic, deep thinking film. Gould gets opposing viewpoints from fellow producer, Fox ,and the temp secretary, Karen. Gould has to decide which film should be produced.
I don't think I would stage this with high school students. Mamet's language is often too harsh and foul for a high school stage. Also, this play only has three characters in it. Many times, high school plays are required to have a large cast so that many people can get involved. As for studying it, I don't think I would do that either. This play is not bad in any sense, but it does not contain extremely deep themes for students to think about. If they were interested in doing Mamet, I would rather have them read Oleanna.
