Shakespeare, William. The Tempest . London: Royal Shakespeare Company, 2007. Print.
The Tempest is one of Shakespeare's romances. It tells the tale of Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, who has been banished to an island with his daughter Miranda. Those who banished him are nearby, so Prospero enacts a storm to be able to finally confront them. On the island there is also a mistreated man, Caliban, seeking revenge on Prospero for mistreating him his whole life. This is easily something that could be taught in high school, especially as it is easier to understand than many of Shakespeare plays. Students can explore the multiple relationships and plots that are taking place in this show. I don't know if I would do this as a high school production. One obvious problem is that there isn't an actor who could Prospero in high school. Also, there is a need for deeper thought to this play, in my opinion, and I do not know for sure that the actors would be able to do it.
